Island Adventures a.k.a 'Now I feel like Moana'
After amazing all the interns with our diligent attendance so far this week, we agreed to take a long weekend off to travel to a nearby island resort called Leleuvia.
It's only about an hour's taxi and then forty five minutes by boat from Suva, so much more accesible than the islands up by Nadi (and much more reasonably priced!)
We stayed till Sunday afternoon, and let me tell you, this place is amazing.
All my Fiji fantasies of white sand beaches were completely fulfilled and exceeded. The island itself is tiny- no more than 20 minutes to walk all the way around, and there were never more than maybe forty guests at one time. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, as were the two puppies living on the island, and we felt right at home.
The food was good, even for vegetarians and there was plenty to keep us busy, including snorkelling, paddle boarding and kayaking. We even manage to do a workout in the outdoor gym! Of course my favourite entertainment was laughing at the antics of the hippy-dippy wellness retreat there with us but I don't think that's normally included in the package, so don't get too disappointed it they're not there when you visit.
This weekend was amazing and just what the three of us had hoped for after a 'strenuous' week and I honestly can't recommend Leleuvia enough. None of us can really muster up a lot of enthusiasm for going back to the hospital tomorrow morning, but I'm sure it won't be too bad. Fingers crossed we get a good night's sleep back in Suva and manage a productive day!
